Celebrity Big Brother UK returns but is there a place for it in 2024? ...The Standard podcast

After six long years, Celebrity Big Brother UK is back.

Once one of the biggest shows on television, CBBUK previously ran for 17 years and gave us a whopping 22 series.

Featuring iconic moments such as the US reality star Tiffany Pollard mistakenly thinking a fellow housemate had died, non-celeb Chantelle Houghton having to pretend to be in a girl band called Kandy Floss, and the recently-elected Rochdale MP George Galloway acting like a cat on all fours back in 2006.

In fact, quotes from Celebrity Big Brother’s original run are still used frequently today. Just think of Jackie Stallone’s “yeah, it’s Jackie!”, Kim Woodburn’s “don’t start with me, luvie!", and Gemma Collins screaming “I’m claustrophobic, Darren!”

This time around, Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Ekin-Su Culculoglu, Nikita Kuzmin, and even Kate Middleton’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, are in the house, but can the celeb reboot deliver the same reality TV gold of its predecessor?

Hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best are back presenting again following the success of the most recent regular Big Brother series on ITV towards the end of last year.

Emily Phillips, Associate Editor of ES Magazine, gives her verdict on the lineup and whether or not CBBUK has a place in TV in 2024.

Celebrity Big Brother airs at 9pm Sunday to Friday on ITV1 and ITVX.
