Celebrity Bake Off 2022 format change as presenter steps away from hosting role

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer has officially kicked off for 2022 with a star-studded line-up taking part. The Channel 4 series sees famous faces bake to inspire viewers to do the same and raise awareness for Stand Up to Cancer.

The first episode, which aired on Tuesday, March 22, saw television presenter Emma Willis win Star Baker as she went head-to-head with Clara Amfo, Blake Harrison and Alex Horne in the famous tent. Over the next five installments, 16 more celebrities will compete to impress Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with their signatures, technicals and showstoppers.

One of those episodes, however, will see presenter Matt Lucas, who usually hosts GBBO with Noel Fielding, leave his presenting duties to take part in the show as he stands in for a missing baker. It means Bake Off will have just one presenter for the first time ever.

Noel has been presenting the show since its move to Channel 4 in 2017. He originally hosted the programme alongside Sandi Toksvig, who stepped down from the role in 2020 and was replaced with Matt Lucas.

But in a surprise twist this year, one episode will find Matt swapping sides of the Bake Off banks. Filling in for a missing baker as he finds out what it's really like to bake under the scrutiny of his fellow presenter Noel.

Matt said: "I was forced to bake by my bosses at the last minute when one of the bakers became unavailable. I can't tell you how happy I was that my humiliation was caught on camera."
