Celebrities who rose to super stardom after reality TV appearances

Some of the nation's favourite TV shows include those where we get to peek inside the lives of other every day people.

From programmes which showcase talent like Britain's Got Talent and X Factor to those that show how people live like Big Brother and The Only Way Is Essex, reality TV is a guilty pleasure for many.

But as well as loving the programmes, we grow to love the contestants and casts of these shows too and some every day people saw these shows as a chance to make a name for themselves.

We take a look at some of the biggest successes to come out of the UK's reality TV.

Stacey Solomon

Dagenham girl Stacey found her fame after she finished in third place on the sixth series of The X Factor in 2009, and then later went on to win the tenth series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2010.

Throughout summer 2016, Solomon appeared several times as a guest panellist on ITV daytime show Loose Women. It was later announced she would become a regular panellist and has been a regular face on the show since.

The same year, she became a co-host on The Extra Camp, where she met now fiancé and ex-Eastenders star Joe Swash.

On 10 March 2021, Solomon announced on Instagram the BBC had commissioned home-decluttering series Sort Your Life Out, with her presenting.

She has also been the face of the freezer shop Iceland, and presented several programmes including Sing If You Can with Keith Lemon.

Stacey shares a lot of her life with her many fans and has amassed more than 4.9million followers on her social media account.

Josie Gibson

Bristolian babe Josie is famous for winning the eleventh series of Big Brother, in 2010, and later that year, she appeared in Ultimate Big Brother.

She was announced as the winner with 77.5% of the public vote - the highest percentage out of any other Big Brother series.

Since then, her popularity continued as she worked as a reporter on Channel 5's OK! TV show.

In 2019 Gibson joined the This Morning team as a competition announcer, and recently filled in for Holly Willoughby when she was off sick.

Viewers and producers have loved seeing her on the morning talk show and there have been speculation of her having a bigger role on the show in the future.

Alison Hammond

Another famous face to come from Big Brother is Alison Hammond.

She competed in the third series of the reality show in 2002, in which she was the second housemate to be evicted.

After leaving the Big Brother house, she appeared on many shows including Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrities Under Pressure and Big Star's Little Star.

She is recently best known for appearing on This Morning, where she co-presents alongside Dermot O'Leary on Fridays while Phil an Holly take a break.

Her and Josie Gibson are good friends and are said to be spending Christmas together this year.

Harry Styles

Harry Styles wins British Single at BRIT Awards 2021 (ITV)

Pop sensation Harry Styles started his journey of fame when he entered X Factor as a solo artist in 2010.

Following his elimination early on, he was brought back to join the boy band One Direction, alongside Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne.

The group went on to become one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, but split in 2016.

In 2017, Harry released his first debut solo album, which became one of the world's top-ten best-selling albums of the year.

Throughout his career, Styles has earned several accolades, including two Brit Awards, a Grammy Award, an Ivor Novello Award, and an American Music Award.

Aside from music, he is also known for his flamboyant fashion, and is the first man to appear solo on the cover of Vogue magazine.

Gemma Collins

Gemma Collins found fame after TOWIE (ITV)

Essex's finest Gemma Collins is now a well known media personality and businesswoman after appearing on TOWIE.

She appeared on the show between 2011 and 2019, which made her known as "The GC."

Speaking in 2020, she said "Although I'm Gemma Collins, I've got my brand the GC. Gemma Collins is a homely girl who loves watering hanging baskets. The GC, which is my brand, is basically a character that's over the top that people either love her or hate her, but on the back of her I've managed to launch perfumes and lipsticks."

She later appeared on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here, which she said "wasn't for her."

In 2017, Gemma hit headlines as she fell through a hole on the stage at the Radio 1 Teen Awards.

Rylan Clark

Rylan has been iconic from the day that he first appeared on our screens, when he was a contestant on the X Factor back in 2012.

While his voice was awful, his personality is what won the hearts of the judges and the nation as he finished in fifth place.

He went on to Clark-Neal become a housemate in the eleventh series of Celebrity Big Brother in January 2013 and later started as a host on Big Brother's Bit on the Side.

For the show, he got himself some new veneers which were the main talk of viewers for a while.

He had his veneers replaced this year after splitting from partner Dan Neal.

Rylan has since appeared on This Morning and steps in as a co-host when they need the relief.

Scarlett Moffatt

Appearing with her family on Gogglebox, Scartlett was one of the country's favourite couch critics.

She went on to appear on the sixteenth season of I'm a Celeb, putting an end to her Gogglebox career as they don't like to have celebrities as a part of the cast.

The star went on to be crowned Queen of The Jungle for that year.

She has since been the backstage presenter for the National Television Awards, and joined Ant & Dec on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway.

Dani Dyer

While her dad is a famous actor, Dani Dyer was pretty much unheard of until she appeared on Love Island in 2018.

She coupled up with fellow contestant Jack Fincham but they split later that year, after staying together a short while after the show ended.

Dani later got back with ex Sammy Kimmence, who she had baby Santiago to, but the couple split when he was arrested for fraud.

Since her reality TV stint, she has co-presented the MTV series True Love or True Lies alongside father Danny Dyer, as well as co-hosting a podcast called Sorted with the Dyers with him.

Molly-Mae Hague

Another face to come from the island of love, Molly-Mae Hague found fame when appearing on the fifth series of Love Island, finishing as a runner up with partner Tommy Fury.

After leaving Love Island , Molly-Mae reportedly signed a £500,000 deal with PrettyLittleThing, and her first collection with the brand became one of their most successful launches as of 2021.

Since then, she has been hired as the firm's creative director after previously serving as a brand ambassador.

George Sampson

Warrington-born George shot to fame after winning the second series of BGT in 2008 when he was just 14 years old.

He performed a dance act and won the hearts of the judges and the nation.

In 2008, George made his stage debut in the West End hip-hop musical Into the Hoods.

He later started his acting career when he joined the cast of the BBC drama series Waterloo Road, playing the character of a 17-year-old student named Kyle Stack.

He joined the cast of Emmerdale in January 2016 and made his on screen debut the following month, when he played a character named Ryan who became involved in Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller)'s child sex abuse storyline.

George is currently playing the role of Dean in Everybody's Talking About Jamie.
