Celebrities out in force on red carpet at Pride of Scotland Awards in Edinburgh

Scots icon Lulu joined stars from the world of showbiz, music, sport and reality TV as she celebrated The Pride of Scotland Awards in Edinburgh.

The Shout singer hit the red carpet at the capital’s Assembly room alongside Still Game’s Gavin Mitchell and Greg Hemphill, Love Island’s Paige Turley and Finley Tapp, Bridgerton’s Ruby Barker, Eastenders' Laurie Brett, singers St PHNX, Nina Nesbitt and more at the event to celebrate ordinary people who have achieved extraordinary things.

The Daily Record event, held in partnership with TSB and presented by Elaine C Smith and Sanjeev Kohli, is dubbed the ‘People’s Oscars‘ and Scotland’s best-known celebrities couldn’t wait to sing the praises of all the nation’s heroes on the night.

Lulu, who looked resplendent in orange following her recent gig with Boy George, said of the event: “It's very sweet because when you know some of the stories it touches your heart.

“Everybody has had adversity in their lives but some more than others. So it's wonderful that they can be honoured and heard and seen for how they survived their specific situations. Since Covid, I think we are more heartfelt as human beings.”

Still Game’s Gavin Mitchell was also delighted to be on the red carpet.

Gavin said: “I can't emphasise enough the importance of tonight. I'm not a huge fan of award ceremonies. We all slap each other on the back a lot and I suppose it is lovely.

“But this is about real people and real things that should be celebrated, things that make you feel humbled and put things in perspective. People get real awards for selfless things and, let's face it, it should be celebrated.”

Gavin is happy to be out and about again after admitting he has been recovering from long Covid.

He said: “I’ve caught everything that’s been going around and had a lot of fatigue and brain fog but I’m getting there."

Nina Nesbitt also stunned on the red carpet as she revealed her new album will be released on September 2.

Nina, who played the Isle of Wight festival at the weekend, said: “It’s great to be back home in Scotland for an event like this. Obviously I’m from Edinburgh, and we've seen some kilts outside and I got really excited.

“I wanted to pop in tonight while I’m up doing a promo for the new album. Isle of Wight was amazing, and like, our second festival in three years. So just getting back was great and we’ve got TRNSMT coming up soon too.”
