Celebrations mark Carnbroe Primary retirement

Maureen Adams was on the crest of a wave as she had a ship-shape celebration to mark her retirement.

She sailed off into the sunset after a quarter of a century serving pupils and staff at Carnbroe Primary in her role as senior clerical assistant.

The pupils and her colleagues surprised her with a special assembly based on an international cruise, led by the school captains and house captains.

It saw Margaret sporting a captain’s hat and jacket and taking on a series of challenges alongside pupils, ranging from Greek dancing and playing Spanish maracas to taking part in games and a quiz.

She was then presented with flowers by the school’s youngest pupils, as well as jewellery and gifts from pupils and staff.

Carnbroe resident Margaret also celebrated the occasion at a special lunch with staff colleagues.

Depute head Karen Smith told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “It was quite emotional, but it was a nice day; Margaret enjoyed the games and songs from the children, and being made a fuss of!

“She’s been at the school for 25 years and is in with the bricks! She knows everybody and all the children and families in the village.”
