Celebration of all things food in Perthshire will be a tasty treat

Foodies in Perthshire will be able to indulge in a month-long celebration of the area’s local produce this month.

The Great Perthshire Picnic returns for a fourth year and promises to showcase the area’s thriving food and drink industry.

Organised by Perth-based charity Giraffe Trading, this year’s programme features 40 different events in locations all across the region.

One of the highlights of this year’s programme of events is the Wee G&T Festival at Provender Brown, steak nights at 63 Tay Street and masterclasses from George Campbell and Son.

Gareth Ruddock, CEO of Giraffe Trading, said: “I’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of business and September’s looking like it’s going to be a really tasty month.”

He continued:“The Great Perthshire Picnic has given us a reason to meet with and talk to a much broader range of potential employers than we would in our normal business.

“It also gives the employers a chance to find out more about what we do, and the value that one of our job seekers could bring to their workplace.

“Food and drink was the obvious link for us because we’re already involved in producing fresh food from our Perth sites, giving opportunities for people to gain experience in the catering and retail industries to help them move into employment.”

The finale to this year’s Great Perthshire Picnic will be Giraffe’s 10th birthday party, which will take the form of an African supper club.

There will be a tasting menu of exotic treats such as amagwinya (savoury doughnuts from Botswana), shisa (Kenyan chicken thighs) and melktart, a South African custard tart.
