Celebrating g3 magazine: 10 years of the 'gay TimeOut'

g3 magazine began in March 2001. The magazine launched as a 48 page publication, and was initially being produced at the founder's, Sarah Garrett's, home. The lesbian world has changed vastly since that time, due to law changes, many women feeling they can be more visible and public attitudes changing with more positive representation in the mainstream media. As a result this has meant g3 has been able to flourish, the team of staff now put together the substantial monthly magazine in its central London offices, which hopefully serves as verification of how far the lesbian community has come. There is no other publication like it, and best of all it has remained free for its loyal readers.

"Most of all we'd like to thank everyone for their support over the years, many people have pitched in and afterall the magazine is trully one that belongs to the whole community," says founder Sarah Garrett.

The publication now has a print run of 40,000 [estimated readership x 3.5 = 140,000]. g3 was launched in 2001 with a circulation of 5,000. Within five years this had increased by 600%, proving that there is a high demand for the product from both a readership and a commercial point of view.

g3 is now available to download or view instantly online at www.g3mag.co.uk, this has increased our readership and each month we are experiencing a higher number of readers through this method.

Editorial content includes celebrity interviews, cutting-edge features, previews, reviews and listings (g3 is often referred to as the gay version of Time Out). g3 contains regular sections on travel, music and film, the arts, bars and clubs, leisure, community, fashion, health and fitness, property and sales, plus our all new legal section.

g3 is a full-colour, glossy A4 publication, 90gsm stock, 100-116pgs. The magazine is available during the first week of each month from various nationwide distribution outlets including gay women's bars/clubs, mixed bars/clubs, bookshops, theatres, cinemas, cafés, art spaces, community groups/charitable organisations and libraries.

Content produced and controlled by Square Peg Media, supporter of the Diversity hub.
