Celebrating Chinese traditions

Lhong 1919 will celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, aka Mooncake Festival, with the Raise the Lantern Under the Moonlight fair, which will be held from Saturday until Monday, 4-8pm.

This is an opportunity for Thais of Chinese descent to experience the atmosphere of Chinese-traditional harmonious festivities amidst the historical buildings of the old Teochew community, with a heritage of more than 180 years.

There will be many entertaining activities on all three evenings. Visitors are invited to raise a paper lantern for good luck and witness a demonstration on the making of lu dou gao or Teochew traditional mung bean mooncake. This original recipe has been preserved within the Hua Chuan Lang community (aka Wanglee Pier before it was developed into Lhong 1919) for over 60 years.

There will be the Mooncake Gallery featuring the atmosphere of Chinese traditional inns, and visitors are invited to pay homage to Mazu Goddess, the goddess of family and love that has been housed at Lhong 1919 for over 170 years.

A mooncake-making workshop will be presented and mooncake lovers can shop for the sweet delights from leading labels including Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Peninsula Hotel, Banyan Tree Hotel, Vanilla Industry, S&P and Gokjai Restaurant (Klong San).

The fair will run on three evenings, from Sept 22-24. photo courtesy of Lhong 1919
