Celebrate the female form with Adidas and Marimekko

For their fourth collaboration, Adidas and Marimekko celebrate the expression and movement of the female form.

Marimekko designers Maija Isola and Annika Rimala drew inspiration from a series of patterns called Ihminen, meaning Human, based on photographs depicting silhouettes of the female body.

Founded in 1951, the Finnish lifestyle design house is known for its original prints, with large-scale patterns and overlapping of vibrant colours becoming hallmarks of Marimekko's designs.

Two years earlier, Adi Dassler founded Adidas in the small German town of Herzogenaurach and registered a shoe designed with three stripes.

The capsule collection combines Adidas performance technologies with a palette of distinct and expressive patterns attributed to different sports: Gabriel for running, Jokeri for sportswear, and Jenkka and Tundra for training pieces.

"We understand that movement takes many guises, so we wanted to ensure pieces in this drop catered to different sports our community enjoy -- from running to dance -- while tailoring pieces to their specific needs," said Aimee Arana, global senior vice-president for sportswear and training at Adidas.

"We hope this latest collection offers something to everyone who enjoys the vitality that sport and movement brings, while adding a touch of the collaboration's statement style."

The Adidas x Marimekko collection features pieces for outdoor pursuits, accessories and footwear. The collaboration continues to embody a shared eco-conscious design philosophy with key pieces made in part with recycled materials and Parley Ocean Plastic, to help end plastic waste.

The Ultraboost 22 Silhouette shoe features an upper made from yarn containing at least 50% Parley Ocean Plastic while the crop hoodie is also partly made with recycled materials.
