Celebrate the Bard with a clean-up of your local burn

Robert Burns celebrations take to the river this Saturday as locals and visitors are invited to ‘Tidy up your local burn for Burns Day’

Forth Rivers Trust to host local river champion and other residents in a walk along the Barbauchlaw Burn in Armadale and White Burn in Bathgate

Robert Burns' love of nature is evident in much of his writing and now this year the Forth Rivers Trust are re-imagining the definition of Burns celebrations as people are invited to tidy up their local burn as they learn about this part of their local river.

Starting at 10.30am and led by a local river champion those who wish to take part will lead an effort to tidy up the burn as well as take part in a litter pick up.

The group will be provided with litter picking equipment and refreshments and snacks will be provided and there might even be some poetry recited at the river bank.

Burns enthusiasts are asked to be appropriately clothed for the conditions, ready for an hour of local chat and maybe a verse or two. Extra litter picking gear if wanted is welcome, and the Forth Rivers Trust will take the litter away at the end of the session.

The meeting point for the Barbauchlaw Burn in Armadale is the playground equipment in Drove park on Drove street.

Parking is available along the sides of Drove Road or there is a small car park opposite the turn off to Burns Avenue.

The meeting point for the White Burn in Bathgate is the A705 bridge over the White Burn just near the Gothenburg shop, if you're not sure of the exact location then head for the Gothenburg and we'll make sure we find you. Parking is available along the sides of the Hens Nest Road.
