The final Sunday each October is National Tight End Day. That falls on Week 8 of the 2019 season. George Kittle and the 49ers will celebrate with a game against Greg Olsen and the Carolina Panthers.
Kittle told the 49ers’ website the holiday was made up in the middle of the 49ers’ Week 2 win over the Lions in 2018:
We were on the sidelines after Celek’s score when Jimmy asked, ‘What is it, like National Tight End Day?’” Kittle recalled. “I was like, ‘yeah, it’s National Tight End Day. It’s a holiday. Tight ends all over the league are scoring touchdowns.’ That’s how it came to be. We just kind of rolled with it.
