Celeb royalty attending King Charles' Coronation and who turned him down

King Charles III's Coronation will be attended by royalty from around the world, but there will also be some huge celeb names who have merited an invite to their historic occasion.

All eyes will be on Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May, 2023, for the service conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Buckingham Palace has already confirmed the event will reflect the Monarch’s views of the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

As with many key royal events over the decades, a number of famous faces have been called up to the guest list.

Long time friends of the royal, Victoria and David Beckham are among the big names rumoured to be attending the Coronation.

This isn't the first royal event they've been to as they were also invited to Prince William and Princess Kate's 2011 wedding as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's nuptials in 2018 too.

Bear Grylls has also confirmed he will be at the Coronation.

He holds the role of Chief Scout, meaning he has plenty of a connection to the royal family.

He was also granted an OBE for his services to young people.

It is no surprise that Joanna Lumley is invited as she recently spoke about her connection with King Charles.

Despite saying they are not "close friends", she said that the King and Camilla have "always been extremely friendly".

Speaking to Metro, she said: "I’m not close friends. The thing is, it’s odd this thing about friendship. I think a friend friend, a close friend, is somebody who you can ring up in the middle of the night. I would not know how to get in touch with Prince Charles, let alone ring him at any time."

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has been invited to the Coronation, and has been seen with King Charles at other occasions.

In February, she picked up her latest honour from the King, a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, or CBE, for services to fashion and sustainability.

McCartney also designed Meghan Markle's dress for her wedding reception.

Rowan Atkinson will be seen on the special day.

He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to drama and charity.

However, there are some well known people who have turned down an invitation to the Coronation.

It has been well documented that Meghan Markle will be staying in the US while Prince Harry attends the occasion on his own.

US President Joe Biden will not be attending the special day, but his wife and First Lady Jill Biden will be there in his place.

It has also been reported that Sarah Ferguson, despite being previously married to Prince Andrew, has not received an invitation to the Coronation.
