Celeb Bake Off's James McAvoy named Star Baker as viewers brand him 'the perfect man'

James McAvoy was crowned Star Baker during tonight's Bake Off as Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith...

James won first place after edging out Olympian Dame Kelly Holmes, singer Anne-Marie and comedian and novelist David Baddiel.

The Scotsman had won a whole new army of fans as he made viewers swoon within minutes.

He'd flexed his comedy muscles in an opening skit with host Matt Lucas before sweeping through the baking challenges and taking home the gold.

Matt, Prue and Paul gathered the celebs to make the big announcement.

And when Matt read out the result, James' face lit up.

"Hopefully if we can raise a good amount of money for Stand Up To Cancer, that's the most important thing," James told the camera.

"Me living out my fantasies in the Bake Off tent isn't as important, but but it was lovely, so thank you very much!"

His victory came as viewers flooded the Bake Off hashtag with tweets about the dreamy actor.

"I keep just going 'oooft' every time James is on screen #bakeoff," one enamoured viewer tweeted.

Another shared a string of heart eyes emojis and simply wrote: "Erm hello James McAvoy."

A third posted screengrabs of James and captioned them: "The only snack I see in the #BakeOff tent."

"James McAvoy baking cakes?! Get in my face," a fourth demanded.

"Swooning already," a fifth wrote within a minute of the show's opening.

Another could hardly contain themselves, tweeting: "JAMES MCAVOY!!! What a man!"

Next week's show will see Dizzee Rascal, Nick Grimshaw, Phillipa Perry and Reece Shearsmith in the tent.

Last week, meanwhile, saw X Factor champ Alexandra Burke, beating out Tom Allen, Rob Beckett and Daisy Ridley.

*The Great Celebrity Bake Off continues on Tuesday 23 March at 8pm on Channel 4.
