A back-up water mains supply to Celbridge is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
The news will come as a relief to residents of the town who were without water for several days earlier this year.
Locals were outraged after the mains burst in January, leaving much of the town without water.
He said: "Flushing [cleaning] of the network is currently being carried out by Kildare County Council staff, with a view to carrying out water sampling in the very near future.
"If these water samples are satisfactory, final works can be completed to bring the main into service inside a few weeks."

The January burst caused huge disruption in the town, with a small tanker deployed on the Main Street proving to be insufficient to meet demand.
Deputy O'Rourke said: "When it [the water main] burst, it caused major disruption to residents, businesses, nursing homes, schools etc.
"I subsequently raised the item with Irish Water at a meeting I arranged in Leinster House and pressed for action to betaken by Irish Water to address the problems.”
The Fianna Fail TD added he was "delighted" a plan was now in place to deal with any future water supply issues.
