Ceiling at Costa Coffee branch caves in sending debris smashing onto tables and chairs

Dramatic pictures show the destruction inside a Costa Coffee branch after the ceiling appears to have caved in.

Passers-by spotted what had happened this morning at the outlet in Lincoln.

Photos of the debris show pieces of plasterboard spread across the furniture and floor.

Tables and chairs were tipped over, and metal struts are seen hanging from the ceiling, Lincolnshire Live reports.

Fortunately nobody appears to have been inside when the incident took place.

The branch has been closed since March when the Government put the UK into lockdown.

And despite some of the company's 2,700 UK stores reopening already, this one has not thrown open its doors again yet.

It is unknown at this time if the store in Brayford Wharf, which is attached to an Odeon cinema, will face a delayed reopening because of the incident.

Those that have reopened have mainly been drive-thru stores, where people can collect their orders without getting out of their cars.

Stores which have not opened and are not drive-thrus have done so with strict measures in place that mean only a handful of people are served at a single time in each branch.

Meanwhile the chain's seating areas have also been cordoned off and removed to prevent people staying inside its stores.Lincolnshire Live reports
