CeeDee Lamb spoke to 49ers WR coach, Marquise Goodwin trade may be imminent

The 49ers could see a dramatic change to their receiving corps on Day 1 of the NFL draft. Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he’s had conversations with 49ers wide receivers coach Wes Welker. Anderson also reported 49ers general manager John Lynch told her a Marquise Goodwin trade could happen as early as today.

It’s not a huge surprise the 49ers had contact with Lamb considering their need at wide receiver. He’s widely regarded as one of the two or three best players at that position in this year’s draft. Even if they’re just setting a smoke screen to drive up the value of their No. 13 selection – a discussion with Lamb makes a lot of sense.

The team has also talked to Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs III – another one of the top receivers in this class.

The Goodwin trade is something Lynch said the team has been exploring. Getting any kind of value for Goodwin would be a win for the 49ers since they’re likely to part ways with the veteran receiver before the season anyway. Even if he’s not involved in a direct swap for a pick, he could be used as sweetener in another deal to give Lynch added flexibility in a move up or down the draft board.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area also reported the 49ers are allowing Goodwin and his agent to negotiate a new contract with other teams while the club explores a trade.

A player like Lamb wouldn’t be a direct replacement for Goodwin since their skill sets are so vastly different. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if Lamb is the 49ers’ pick at No. 13, and Goodwin is also involved in a separate move.
