CeeDee Lamb scouting report, potential fit with the Eagles

Former Oklahoma University wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is regarded as one of the best receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft. Lamb ended his 2019 season with 62 receptions, 1,327 yards, and 14 touchdowns. The 6’2” 190-pound receiver, who is only 20 years old and turns 21 in April, was named a First-Team All-American after his impressive 2019 season.

Philadelphia Eagles fans haven’t talked as much about Lamb as other receivers prospects, mainly because it seems like a long shot that he makes it to the 21st pick. However, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein released his first mock draft, and Zierlein had the Eagles selecting Lamb at pick 21. This has sparked some excitement in the fan base.

Here is a scouting report and breakdown of Lamb’s strengths and weaknesses and his potential fit with the Eagles:

Strengths: Lamb has “IT” and “IT” is so fun to watch. He pops on film and you can tell he is a man among boys. Everything he does is so smooth, beautiful, and just so natural.

Catching the ball is easy for Lamb and he can pluck the ball out of the air with no problems. He is one of those receivers that is always open, even when he is covered. He will win contested catches and always give A+ effort when the ball is in the air.

He is always working to get open and he gets open a lot because he understands the game. He will find the soft spot in the zone or work to help his quarterback find him.

When the ball is in his hands, he is always trying to score. He just feels the play and somehow always makes the right move. He is an amazing athlete and has more than enough speed to succeed in the NFL.

He plays so physical and is the definition of a “DUDE” on the field. You better come ready to play against him because he is always bringing it. His fire and passion to play the game is fun to watch. He gets after it in the run game and gives the effort you want to see.

Weaknesses: The biggest “weakness” in Lamb’s game is that he isn’t a 4.3 40-yard dash guy, which is nitpicking. He will likely run in the high 4.4’s, which is comical that I even have to list this as a weakness.

Another nitpicking comment would be that he will have a competition adjustment in the NFL. Big 12 defenses to NFL defenses will be a big jump.

Lamb could gain some mass to his frame, as he doesn’t look as thick as he could. However, this is just nitpicking again, as he plays strong and physical.

Overall Impression: My favorite word to use when talking about a really good player is “DUDE” and Lamb is a true “DUDE.” The guy can flat out ball. He is going to be a No. 1 receiver in the NFL in Year 1 and he has a chance to be an impact player for a long time in the NFL. People will nitpick about his long speed, but watch the film because he is more than fast enough. He will become an instant fan favorite for whatever team drafts him because of the skills he has, but mainly the fire he plays with. It is hard to pick one player he reminds me of in the NFL, but he reminds be of Odell Beckham Jr. paired with DeAndre Hopkins and a little Michael Thomas. He has the fire of OBJ, but with the calmness and dominance of Hopkins, and the hard-working mentality of Thomas.

Grade: First Round (Picks 6-14)

Fit with the Eagles: Eagles fans want their quarterback to get a legitimate No. 1 receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft. Well, Lamb is Carson Wentz’s guy then. I do not see how he would make it to the 21st pick, so the Eagles will need to trade up for him if they want him. If he somehow makes it to No. 21, Howie Roseman and company better start partying early because Lamb is a slam dunk pick. He would be a star on the Eagles right away and is worth trading up for. He can easily be a 100 catch and 1,000-yard guy for the Eagles while scoring some impact play touchdowns. Pairing him with Zach Ertz, Miles Sanders, DeSean Jackson, Dallas Goedert, and Greg Ward would be amazing.
