Cedric Soares wants Arsenal permanent transfer despite failing to play for Gunners

Cedric Soares is eyeing a permanent deal at Arsenal despite making no appearances for the Gunners since his January loan move from Southampton.

The Portugal full-back is set to end his five-year stint with the Saints when his contract runs out this summer after amassing 138 appearances for the south coast club.

Cedric featured 19 times this season but has struggled with a knee injury since his six-month move to the Emirates Stadium on 31 January.

Nonetheless, the 28-year-old has hinted that he would like to extend his stay at Arsenal beyond the expiry of his loan and spoke of his admiration for the club.

"Being at Arsenal has been such a positive experience for me. The players have treated me very well since I arrived here and everyone has been very cool," Cedric said, as reported by The Sun.

"I am still getting to know Arteta but he has already shown he has many qualities and he is a complete coach. He is concerned with all areas of football, both psychological and tactical.

"I liked Arsenal from a very early age because I followed the Premier League as a boy and always supported them during the time they won practically everything.

"I have always known they are a huge club but it is only now that I have seen them from the inside that I have a real idea of just how big they are."

Cedric will be a free agent once his Southampton contract expires this summer and his signature is sure to be highly sought after.

At Arsenal, the former Sporting Lisbon man could be brought in to provide competition for right-back Hector Bellerin.

Cedric has made 120 Premier League appearances, scoring once and assisting 11 times, while he also boasts international experience with Portugal.

He has made 33 appearances with the national team and was part of the squad which won the Euro 2016.
