Cedric Itten wins SPFL award as Rangers star pips Ryan Kent to monthly prize

Rangers striker Cedric Itten got off the mark for his new club against Motherwell last month - and the stunning volley won the SPFL goal of the month award.

The Swiss frontman has had a stop/start beginning to his Rangers career with injuries curtailing his wish to get a consistent run of games under his belt.

But he will get a confidence boost after his brilliant volley against Motherwell won the league's award, being chosen in more than 50 per cent of all votes.

And he beat Ryan Kent to the prize with the winger's goal against Dundee United finishing in second place.

It was a month where there were plenty of contenders for the award with goals from the likes of Julian Serrano, Allan Campbell, Callum McGregor and Lawrence Shankland.

But Itten and Kent got an incredible combined vote of 78 per cent, with Itten's volley claiming 52 per cent of it.

The volley was the fourth goal in a 5-1 win for Rangers at Fir Park while Kent's second place goal came as the opener in a 4-0 win against Dundee United.

Motherwell's Campbell finished third in the vote with 10 per cent for his long range strike against St Johnstone.
