Cedric Itten opens up on Rangers exit as he admits playing time frustrations

Swiss striker Cedric Itten has admitted he grew frustrated with a lack of game time at Rangers before he left the club on deadline day.

The frontman struggled to hold down a regular spot in the team with Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and summer signing Fashion Sakala all seemingly preferred options.

He played four times this season for the Ibrox club but only one of those was from the start and he was even an unused sub in the 5-0 win over Dunfermline in the Premier Sports Cup.

But despite his frustrations at his playing time, he did insist that he learned a lot while at the club and believes it was a tough place to break into the first team.

Itten was signed from St Gallen at a time when many expected Morelos to depart the club after talks with Lille, but the Colombian staying meant game time was limited for Itten.

It was similar this summer when many expected El Bufalo to leave Rangers only for him to stay as part of Steven Gerrard's squad.

And Itten reckons the lack of a big sale hampered his ability to show what he can do but he was full of praise for the club and Gerrard.

He told Kicker: "I wish I could have played more there but we had a big squad that was largely together for three years without notable departures.

"It wasn’t easy to play yourself into the side.

"I benefitted from being in a new country and from a different type of football. Steven Gerrard is definitely a big personality. He is very well equipped tactically and I was able to learn a lot."

Itten joined Greuther Furth and scored on his first appearance in a friendly win.

And he insists that it's the perfect club for him to develop further and he was excited to make the move to Germany when it came about.

He added"I think that in Fürth I will find exactly the conditions to develop myself as best as possible. With the impressions from the conversations and what I have already heard about Fürth, it was my absolute wish to come to Fürth."
