Cedric Itten leaves Rangers as striker heads to Bundesliga on loan deal

Rangers have allowed Cedric Itten to leave on loan with the Swiss international joining Greuther Furth for the season.

Rangers do have the option to bring him back in January but have decided to let him go with the striker struggling for game time at Ibrox.

He’s played just four times this season, with three of those coming from the bench and his only start coming against Malmo.

Itten was signed by Steven Gerrard last summer and was the most used sub in the Scottish Premiership when he made 37 appearances and scored six goals.

But he struggled to hold down a regular starting spot and had fallen behind Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala in the pecking order.

And the Premiership champions have decided to allow him to leave the club on deadline day, with Jermain Defoe also an option in attack.

A short statement from the club said: "Cedric Itten has today joined Bundesliga side Greuther Furth on a season-long loan.

"Rangers will retain a recall option for January on the Swiss international.

"Everyone at Rangers wishes Cedric well in Germany."
