Cedric Benson, former Bears running back, relists Libertyville house

Aug. 12--Former Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson has placed his four-bedroom, 4,303-square-foot house in Libertyville back on the market for $844,000.

The league's fourth overall draft pick in 2005, Benson, 32, played with the Bears from 2005 until 2007, including in Super Bowl XLI. After two alcohol-related arrests, the team released him in 2008. He later played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Green Bay Packers. He hasn't played professionally since suffering a major injury in 2012.

Benson paid $1.02 million in 2005 for the traditional-style house, which sits on a wooded and fenced 1.5-acre lot. He first listed it in 2008 for $1.14 million and later cut his asking price to $1.05 million, $995,000, $975,000 and $899,000 before taking it off the market in mid-2010. He recently relisted it for $895,000 and quickly cut his asking price to $844,000.

Built in 1997, the house has 3 1/2 baths, refinished hardwood floors, a two-story family room, gabled ceilings, a master suite with a walk-in closet and vaulted ceilings, a full basement with a fireplace and a workout room and a kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and a glass tile backsplash. The property features an older barn and a fenced dog run.

"It's a great property. It's homemade for entertaining with an open floor plan," said listing agent LuAnne Hollingshead of Keller Williams Realty. "He is selling because he doesn't live here anymore."
