Cedric Itten in Rangers challenge admission but predicts 'easier' year despite Euros pain

Cedric Itten has admitted that moving to Glasgow has been his biggest challenge as he opened up on the pain of missing out on Euro 2020.

The Rangers striker wasn’t included in the Switzerland squad for this summer’s tournament after just five starts this season for the Scottish Premiership champions.

Itten managed six goals despite that, but hasn’t played as much as he would’ve liked, competing with Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe and Kemar Roofe for a striking slot.

Defoe penning a one-year extension and the signing of Fashion Sakala could see him further down the pecking order.

Celtic’s Albian Ajeti also missed out after struggling to establish himself across the city.

Itten’s fine form for St Gallen earned his move to Ibrox last summer but he’s been used mainly as a substitute by Steven Gerrard and hasn’t featured for his national team since October.

"Of course it's a shame I will miss the Euros,” he said.

"But there's nothing I can do to change it and I have to try and draw positives from it.

"I always try to do that...even in the last few months.

"I'll be watching the Euros of course.

"Moving to Glasgow has definitely been the biggest challenge I have faced so far.

"Everything has been really complicated because it's obviously an exceptional situation.

"But we have managed to move into a home under these difficult conditions and next year should be easier for me."
