Cecilia Devine murder investigation: appeal for clothing, handbag

DETECTIVES investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Cecilia Devine will on Wednesday release images of clothing and a handbag similar to those she was wearing in her last known sightings.

Ms Devine was last seen wearing a distinctive bright yellow cardigan, black pants and carrying an orange handbag. None of the items have been found.

Police will dress a mannequin in a similar wardrobe on Wednesday in the hope that images of similar clothing may help remind someone who saw Ms Devine or the items of the information they have.

The Newcastle woman was found dead in the Upper Cascade Creek dam in the Blue Mountains in March, eight months after she was first reported missing from Waratah on September 5 last year.

Blue Mountains police and the Homicide Squad formed Strike Force Eking to investigate the circumstances around her death.

Earlier this year police released CCTV footage of Ms Devine walking from a Katoomba Street hotel on September 6 2018.

Strike Force Eking's Detective Sergeant James Allan said investigators needed the public's help.

"We've established some strong leads into Cecilia Devine's disappearance and death in recent months but there are still many unanswered questions," Detective Sergeant Allan said.

"We are confident that there are people in the community who have information but have been reluctant to contact police and tell us what they know.

"Cecilia was wearing these distinctive items of clothing while walking down one of the main streets of Katoomba in one of her last known sightings.

"We urge you to look closely at these clothing items carefully and if you have any information, contact police as soon as possible.

"Now is the time to come forward and provide us with information so we can find out what happened to Cecilia and how she came to be where she was."

Ms Devine's family have requested privacy.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.

Separately, investigations continue after a woman's body was found in water near a Central Coast boat ramp on Tuesday.

A crime scene was established about 150 metres north of the Terrigal Haven boat ramp after the body was found by local fishermen about 7am.

The woman is yet to be formally identified but on Wednesday media reports named her as 56-year-old Devorah Howard.

A report will be prepared for the coroner and police have appealed for information.
