Cecelia Ahern reveals that she initially had Ryan Tubridy written into her new book but took him out at the last minute

Cecelia Ahern initially had Ryan Tubridy written into her new book – but took him out because she was worried he wouldn’t like what she had to say.

The award-winning Irish author of PS. I Love You has been interviewed by the Late Late Show presenter numerous times over the years and revealed that her new novel, Freckles, features a late night chat show host.

But speaking to Tubridy about the new release this week, she said she decided against featuring him in it.

She told him: “You know what’s so funny, I actually had you in this and I took you out, because I thought I can’t put words.

“I hate when people take characters who exist and put words in their mouth, I think that’s really weird.

“So I was either going to have to text you and say, ‘Ryan, can I have you say this?’ which is just weird.”

Bookworm Tubridy said he would have been honoured to have been included in her writing, “As long as it’s not mean”. He joked: “I’ll be consultant on the next one if you want some help with lines I might use.”

Speaking on his RTE Radio One show yesterday, Cecelia replied: “OK, next time.

“It was just going to be an introduction, but then I thought he might not like how I’ve had you introduce the guest, I’m not a presenter I don’t know.

“But it is not The Late Late Show, I called it something else.”
