
MANILA, Philippines – After being rejected on Tawag ng Tanghalan season 1, Janine Berdin has come full circle, emerging as the singing competition’s season 2 grand winner.
The 16-year-old singer from Cebu won the It's Showtime singing competition on June 2, during the finale held at the Aliw Theater.
She beat contenders Ato Arman and Steven Paysu, to win the title, as well as a prize that includes P2 million, a house and lot, and a management contract.
At the finale, Janine sang a medley of Bamboo songs including “Noypi,” “Hallelujah,” and the band’s revival of the Buklod hit, “Tatsulok.”
The competition’s winner was determined by a combination of judges' scores and text votes, with Janine scoring 96.11%.
Throughout the competition, Janine became known for her raspy voice, which lent a unique sound to her renditions of Pinoy rock hits such as the Eraserheads’ “Huling El Bimbo” and “Magasin,” Yano’s “Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo,” Kamikazee’s “Narda,” and Sampaguita’s “Nosi Ba Lasi,” the song which catapulted her to the finals.
Introduced in the competition as a military trainee, Janine previously joined other talent searches, including Star Circle Quest Kids, The Voice Kids. – Rappler.com
