Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that Israel will return to the negotiating table for cease-fire talks with Hamas. This decision comes amidst ongoing efforts to reach a deal with the militant group that would halt Israel's military offensive in Gaza in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages. Previous rounds of negotiations have faced challenges, but Netanyahu has authorized Israeli delegations to participate in talks in Qatar and Egypt in the coming days.

The United States, Qatar, and Egypt have been engaged in months-long efforts to broker a cease-fire agreement and secure the release of hostages. However, these efforts have hit roadblocks, with Hamas proposing a phased process that includes the release of hostages in exchange for an end to the war, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and other demands.

Netanyahu has dismissed Hamas' demands as delusional and has vowed to continue Israel's offensive until the militant group is dismantled. Hamas is currently holding approximately 100 hostages and the remains of individuals killed in previous attacks.
