CCTV still shows man suspected of launching hot chocolate at BBC reporter

A photo of a man suspected of hurling hot chocolate at a BBC reporter has been released by police.

Health correspondent Lauren Moss tweeted about the incident on February 19, saying a member of the public threw the scolding drink at her and “screamed abuse about how he hates the BBC”.

The alleged attack in Brighton’s Royal Pavilion Gardens took place just moments before she went on air for BBC South East at lunchtime.

Following the shock incident, Ms Moss tweeted: “Luckily the drink missed my face and hit my coat instead."

Police are looking to speak to the man pictured in connection with the incident (Sussex Police)

She added: “Someone may not approve of my work or who I work for but I am a journalist just doing my job.

“Anti-media feeling like this is very concerning for anyone in the industry.”

On Wednesday, Sussex Police released an image of a man wearing a black headband, in connection with the incident.

A spokesman said the force "obtained the attached image of the suspect".

The incident led to an outpouring of support for Ms Moss on Twitter, including from Peter Kyle, MP for nearby Hove and Portslade and historian Simon Schama.

Mr Schama commented: “Goodness am so sorry - the mad hatred washing around ...glad it was just your coat.”

Anyone who recognises the man or has details on the incident is asked to call 101, quoting serial number 76 of 20/02.
