CCTV shows thugs kicking in Galway shop door before stealing cash and goods

CCTV footage shows the moment two men break in the door of a shop in Galway before making off with goods and cash.

The pair can be seen kicking in the door of one unit inside Orantown Centre in Tully, Co Galway, where they are suspected of stealing a number of items and cash from four different units.

The footage shows one of the men rooting through the till stuffing cash into his pocket.

The incident happened around 2am on Monday morning with one shop owner believing the men climbed a tree to access the roof before getting in through a window.

Rubin Shazi, owner of Oranmore Repairs, said that he was devastated when he arrived at his shop on Monday morning and said some of the shop owners who were targeted in the incident haven't been able to sleep.

Rubin believes the men used a window to gain access claiming: "They climbed one of the trees to jump up the wall. They went through the fire escape stairs and from there jumped on the roof.

"Then, on the roof, one of the windows of one of the units that is vacant for the last four years was left open so they got in from there."

Shazi said that, once inside, the pair "smashed every door that did not have the shutter down".

He said: "The value of the items (taken from his store) all together was worth around €2,500.

"They managed to get a Jim Bean zippo lighter, a Cartier pen and a gold pocket watch worth between €1,500 and €2,000.

"They were all my own items. None of the clients' stuff was touched, thank God, because if they were to take any of the clients' stuff, you can't replace it, because people will bring old, used, sentimental value stuff to me to be fixed.

"Even if you gave the customer the option of buying new items they wouldn't be happy because someone may have given it to them."

A Garda spokesperson told IrishMirror.ie: "Gardaí responded to an incident at four separate premises at Orantown Centre, Oranmore, Galway at approximately 2:00am on Monday 2 September.

"Property was stolen and criminal damage was inflicted.

"Investigations are ongoing."
