CCTV shows pair with hatchet robbing Canberra servo

CCTV footage shows a teenager and man robbing a Canberra service station.

A teenager armed with a small axe and a man believed to be in his 20s have become the latest offenders in a number of hold-ups across Canberra.

There have been 14 aggravated robberies in Canberra in just over a month.

On Friday police released CCTV footage showing a teenager and a man entering the service station in Holt shortly after 3:00am (AEDT).

The pair appear to initially pretend to buy a chocolate bar, before the man reached across the counter, grabbing and threatening the staff member.

The worker briefly struggled with the man, before handing over the till full of cash.

During the struggle, the teenager is seen wielding the small axe towards the staff member.

Police said the pair fled on foot, heading towards the Holt McDonalds, with the man smashing the service station's glass door with the hatchet on the way out.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
