CCTV shows moment van door is prised open before culprits drive away

This is the shocking moment that three men break into a van, before running away when they realise they have been caught.

CCTV footage from Factory Street, Ramsbottom, shows three men approach the parked van at around 5.30pm on Friday March 27.

The first man, wearing red gloves and a black North Face jacket, with the hood up, tries to open the van's back door.

When it becomes clear that it is locked, two others approach the vehicle. One is wearing a hooded black jacket and the other is wearing a black UnderArmour cap. The three of them then prise open the van's side door from the top and look inside.

The man wearing the cap then seems to spot the owner of the van in the window of a building and the three run into a nearby Ford Transit van, driven by a man in a hi-vis jacket, which then drives away.

The owner of the damaged van, who does not wish to be named, was in isolation when the incident happened and looking after his poorly son.

He said that since the incident, another person has been in touch with CCTV of the same set of people trying to break into a lock-up.

No arrests have yet been made.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly after 5.30pm on Friday 27 March to reports that a van had been broken into by three men on Crow Lane in Ramsbottom.

"The offenders didn’t leave with anything but damage was done to the van.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
