CCTV shows moment sick thieves steal flag flying half-mast from Scots War Memorial

This is the moment sick thieves stole a flag which was flying at half-mast from a War Memorial in Falkirk.

CCTV footage shows, what appears to be a male passenger getting out of a silver Vauxhall Astra car, and snatching the flag from its mast before the driver sped off.

It happened at the site on Main Street in Avonbridge at around 5:50pm on Sunday March, 7.

Seconds later the flag was gone and the man was spotted running towards a car (UGC)

An investigation has started into the incident and cops are asking anyone with information to get in touch.

Locals have take to social media to express their disgust.

One person said: "Stealing a flag from a war memorial is one thing, but stealing a flag flying half-mast is another."

Another posted: "How sad is this. Let's hope the person is caught soon."

A third wrote: "What a lowlife scumbag man."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On Tuesday, 9 March, 2021, we received a report that a flag has been stolen from the memorial in the village of Avonbridge.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries to find out the full circumstances."
