CCTV shows moment driver ploughs through railway barrier in Minish, Co Kerry

Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment a driver ploughs through a level crossing barrier today.

The video released by Irish Rail shows a car fail to stop at a level crossing and instead drives through the railway gate in Minish, Co Kerry.

The driver then slowed down in the yellow box on the train tracks before a second barrier opened up on the other side allowing the car to drive through.

Services to and from Kerry were heavily delayed due to the incident.

Irish Rail are encouraging road users to obey road signals at level crossings to avoid future incidents.

A spokeswoman from Irish Rail told IrishMirror.ie: "The level crossing at Minish was struck shortly after mid day today.

"As a result there were delays of up to 30mins to services into and out of Kerry. 

"The barrier was fixed at 4pm and normal services have resumed. 

"This is the third barrier that has been struck in three days. 

"Claremont Level Crossing near Howth was also damaged by a vehicle yesterday."

In a post about the incident, the rail service commented, "We are having a day of it" as the Kerry crash was the second level crossing smash today.

In Serpentine Avenue, Dublin, a barrier which disrupted railway services between Sandymount and Landsdowne.
