CCTV shows man chase down car thieves in his pyjamas and slippers after late-night theft

Shocking CCTV captured the moment a man chased down car thieves who nicked a motor from the driveway of his home.

The footage, captured by the victim's neighbour, shows the moment a blue Ford Focus RS speeds out of the estate on Tipperary Place in Stenhousemuir at around 2.35am on Wednesday, October 6.

A relative of the victim, wearing pyjamas and slippers, can be seen frantically chasing the car down before turning around and running back to the property.

A second vehicle, being driven by the same relative then drives out of the estate in pursuit of the stolen car.

Police are now probing the theft.

Shocked neighbour Iain Trotter watched the whole incident unfold on his CCTV when he watched footage the next day.

He said: "They arrived about 12.45am and walked over to his house, but they realised someone was still awake and did a bunk somewhere and disappeared.

"Then they reappeared at 2.15am got into his car and they were gone by 2.30am.

"My neighbour lives with his cousin. He's the one chasing the car in the footage.

"He had finished his nightshift and was half asleep on the couch when he saw the lights on the car and ran out.

"In the video you can see him come out into the street and then they absolutely horse it down the main street in his Focus.

"The car is heavily modified so they weren't hanging about in it."

Iain claims the thieves were back at the scene of the crime just days later loitering outside properties.

He said: "They came back out two days later during the day. They were back at my house to have a look at the Mercedes we had hired at the time while my wife's car was getting repaired.

"The same guys that had stolen his car were doing the exact same thing outside my house.

"They were trying to use some kind of device they had inside two laptop bags they were carrying.

"We've been checking our cameras every night now."

Police confirmed that a Ford Focus had been stolen from a property and enquiries were ongoing into reports of two men seen acting suspiciously in the street two days later.

The stolen car has not been recovered.

The theft comes after a young mum was run over by a gang as they stole her car using a hi-tech device that gains entry to motors without a key.

Josie Mackay, from Edinburgh, was rushed to hospital with a catalogue of injuries including whiplash and severe bruising after she was thrown from the bonnet of her Nissan Qashqai as her four-year-old son looked on.

The mum told how she frantically tried to stop the thugs after spotting them in her car but was dragged about 10 metres down a single-track road.

Her ordeal was one of two similar cases where thieves used an electronic box to remotely copy car key information in the Edinburgh area in recent days.

The second Edinburgh motorist issued an urgent warning after CCTV footage captured a would-be car thief using the sophisticated device to try and steal her motor.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, shared the frightening footage of a hooded prowler outside her front door trying to pick up the signal to her car keys with a signal amplifying device.

The smart device works by tricking a vehicle into thinking the car key is in proximity as the high-tech software then remotely unlocks the vehicle so thieves can gain entry and turn the car on without a key.

Police do not believe the incidents in Stenhousemuir and Edinburgh and linked.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Tipperary Place, Larbert around 2.35am on Wednesday, October 6 after a Ford Focus was stolen from an address.

"Officers were then called to the same street around 6.40pm on Thursday 7 October, to a report of two men acting suspiciously.

"Officers are following a positive line of enquiry."
