South Dublin locals are being warned to keep their doors locked at all times as a group carrying crowbars and wearing balaclavas were spotted in the area.

CCTV footage caught the group as they attempted to break into a house in Shankill.

The homeowner said that the intruders tried to carry out the break in despite the fact that there was a car in the driveway indicating that the house was not vacant.

"They tried to open the window with a crowbar and when that failed, they picked up a very large rock from the garden and threw it through the window to break the glass."

They added that the loud noise from the smash was enough to wake up the person in the house and the group subsequently ran away.

They concluded that if you are sleeping or home alone to have your alarm on as it will help draw attention to the attempted entry while also possibly scaring the intruders away.
