CCTV shows brazen thief stealing clothes from Scots store as owners launch social media appeal

CCTV footage appearing to show a brazen thief stealing clothes from an Aberdeenshire store has been shared online by the shop's owners. The video shows a man with reddish or ginger hair trying on items in The Spotty Bag Shop in Banff on Tuesday, May 16.

The crook can be seen putting on a jacket before sticking his bodywarmer back on over the new item and moving to another part of the Old Market Place store. He is then caught on camera picking up several items and appearing to grab a pair of rolled-up trousers before leaving the shop without paying.

Bosses at The Spotty Bag Shop were left fuming when they realised their clothes had been swiped. They posted footage from their in-store cameras on social media in a bid to track down the culprit.

Sharing the video, they wrote: "We are looking for some help from our Facebook followers. If anyone can identify this individual please contact us. Thank you."

One person wrote: "He was caught on our CCTV today stealing from the pharmacy. I've PM'd you with the name." Another said: "Just a brazen thief with no morals, this is still someone’s property and livelihood, dunno why people think this is funny."

One staff member at the store confirmed on Wednesday morning they had passed on a name to police, but at this stage there had been no arrests made. Police Scotland have been approached for comment.

The Spotty Bag Shop is described as "a unique shopping experience, often dubbed an "Aladdin’s Cave". The store stocks over 60,000 ietms, including: groceries, clothing, pet supplies, garden essentials, homeware and party accessories."
