CCTV shows an alleged pickpocket reaching for an elderly man's jacket in an Irish pub

A pick pocket who allegedly tried to peak at an elderly man's pin code before following him to a pub and taking his wallet is being hunted by Gardai.

Locals in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, are told to beware as footage shows a suspect reaching for the man's jacket as he walked into a local pub.

The CCTV footage was released by The Hamlet Pub in a bid to track down the man in the video.

The victim said he noticed some men trying to pear over his shoulder as he entered his pin in a shop nearby - while the video shows a man feeling at his jacket as he enters the bar.

Staff contacted gardai for the victim after he realised his wallet had been swiped.

His wife warned others to be aware of their surroundings.

She said: "A very scary day, they were determined to rob my husband and things could have been so much worse if he hadn't had the safety of the Hamlet to go to.

"Please be on your guard and look out for friends and family, these people are ruthless and quick, we feel blessed, that all we lost was money today."

Gardai confirmed they're investigating a theft from a man that occurred at a public house in the Castle Mill Centre of Balbriggan on 24/6/19 at approximately 6pm.

"The man's wallet was stolen, no injuries. Investigations are ongoing."
