CCTV released of women police want to speak to about theft from elderly woman's purse in Asda

Police want to speak to these two women after £170 was taken from a pensioner's purse in a supermarket.

Officers are investigating the theft from the elderly woman which happened at Asda in South Shields.

Shortly after 5.15pm on January 8 this year, police received a report of a theft from a purse at the Coronation Street store.

An 87-year-old woman was using the changing rooms at around 3.30pm and left her handbag on the trolley just outside.

However, the woman later learnt upon reaching the till that £170 had been stolen from her purse.

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident, and police have now identified two women they would like to speak to in connection with the alleged theft.

They were known to have been in the supermarket at the time of the incident, and could have vital information that could assist officers with the investigation.

The women, or anyone who recognises them, is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting 692 080119 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
