A 12-year-old girl who went missing overnight in east London has been found safe and well, police said.

Evelin Mezei, who moved to Britain from Hungary six months ago, disappeared from a street near the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, east London, on Monday evening.

Detectives launched an urgent investigation and on Tuesday morning issued CCTV of a man apparently seen with the girl an hour after she went missing.

Evelin was found by police officers in Newham, where she has been living, at 11am on Tuesday – 14 hours after going missing.

Earlier, officers said they were increasingly concerned for her as she had not been reported missing before.
