CCTV released by police after stranger assaulted man in Newcastle city centre

Police want to speak to this man after a stranger assaulted a man in Newcastle city centre.

An image of a man has been released by Northumbria Police as officers investigate the attack.

At around 11.50pm on July 15 a 29-year-old man was approached by a man he did not know on Grainger Street and assaulted.

The victim was not seriously injured in the incident that took place near to the McDonald's restaurant.

Northumbria Police has launched an investigation and officers have been carrying out inquiries to identify the person responsible.

Now officers have released an image of a man they want to speak to. He was in the area when the incident took place.

The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 089844V/19.
