CCTV appeal after Southampton fan, 7, hit in face by "laughing gas canister" during LFC game

A seven-year-old was hit in the face by a laughing gas canister at Liverpool's game against Southampton on Saturday.

The little boy and is said to have sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Hampshire Police said the canister was thrown from the Northam away stand and into the home section shortly after the second goal.

Champions League winners Liverpool won the game 2-1, after goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Hampshire Police have now released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in relation to the incident.

Laughing gas is now the second most popular drug of choice for those aged 16-24. (Geoff Davies)

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We know the pictures are not the best, but we want to speak to this man after an incident at Saints vs Liverpool on Saturday, August 17

"An item was thrown from the Northam stand away end into the Northam stand home section shortly after the second goal.

"The item, described as a nitrous oxide (NOS) canister, hit a seven-year-old Southampton fan.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and quote the reference number 44190293624."

The incident happened during Saturday's Premier League game at St Mary's Stadium.

NOS, or nitrous oxide, is commonly referred to as laughing gas and most commonly found in pressurised metal canisters.
