CCTV released after man smashes window of Labour candidate Julie Elliott's office

Detectives investigating criminal damage at a constituency office have released CCTV footage of a man they want to trace.

At around 11.10pm on Saturday, November 9, a man smashed a window at the office of prospective Member of Parliament Julie Elliott in Sunderland.

The Labour Party candidate for Sunderland Central is currently standing for re-election.

Police say that the suspect damaged the property and was acting aggressively before leaving the area of Norfolk Street in the city centre.

An investigation was launched into the incident, and officers have now released CCTV footage showing a man moments before the incident.

Officers are now asking for the public to help identify the individual in question.

Detective Constable Paul Burrows, of Northumbria Police , said: “Intentional acts of criminal damage are totally unacceptable and we are committed to taking robust action against anybody found responsible.

“Enquiries are ongoing into this incident, and while nobody was hurt, we are taking it incredibly seriously.

“We are now asking members of the public to look at the individual pictured and come forward if they recognise him – he could have valuable information that can assist with the investigation.”

The man, or anyone who recognises him, are asked to contact 101 quoting reference 1195 091119 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
