CCTV released after man attempted to rob Newcastle Post Office while wielding a hammer

Police have released an image of a man they need to trace after Post Office staff were threatened with a hammer in Newcastle.

At about 5.20pm on Monday, October 12, a man entered the Post Office inside M&M News on Tyne View, Lemington, and demanded cash from staff while holding a hammer.

However, staff inside the shop challenged the man and he left empty handed.

No one was injured and no money was stolen and officers have now released an image of a man they need to identify.

He was in the area at the time and may be able to assist the police investigation.

The man, or anyone who knows his identity, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log number 736 121020 or report online at the Northumbria Police website.

You can also contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
