CCTV investigated after pensioner seriously injured after being hit by car

CCTV check are being carried out to see if a sickening accident was caught on camera after a pensioner hit by a car on the Wirral suffered "serious" injuries.

Cliff Road in Wallasey was sealed off after the pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was struck by a Toyota Carina.

The injured man suffered head and leg injuries and was rushed to hospital after the accident shortly after 2.30pm on Wednesday.

The accident understandably sparked major traffic disruption with the road closed for several hours.

The driver stopped at the scene and the road was eventually reopened around 4.30pm.

Today Merseyside Police said the man was seriously injured in the incident and the investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson said: "The man suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries thankfully. He was taken to hospital for assessment and road reopened around 4.35pm.

"CCTV and other enquiries are ongoing."
