CCTV images released after man posed as police to carry out robbery

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a robbery in Bristol.

A man is believed to have falsely posed as a police officer before pushing his victim aqainst a tree and stealing his wallet.

Police have released a new picture in relation to the incident which happened in The Downs area of Bristol.

Police are now appealing for anyone who has seen this man to contact them.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "We’re issuing CCTV images of a man we want to speak to following an incident in which a man has posed as a police officer to carry out a robbery in Bristol.

"The incident happened at about 7.25pm on Sunday, August 22 near Circular Road on The Downs.

"The victim, a 51-year-old man, was approached by a man who falsely stated he was a police officer before pushing him against a tree and stealing his wallet, containing cash and bank cards.

"The man in the images is described as white, in his forties, around 6ft, of a skinny build with a gaunt face and prominent cheekbones.

"He had a large rose/flower tattoo in black stemming from his right shoulder and he was wearing a black t-shirt with a white logo on the front, as well as dark jogging bottoms and trainers."

Investigating officer PC Michael Wells said: “Additional patrols of the area have been carried out following the incident and we’re appealing for anyone with information about this offence to come forward.

“This offender brazenly posed as a police officer to carry out this crime.

"We want to remind the public that plain clothed officers will always make their identify clear and will have official identification on them at all times, which can be checked.

"If you can help, please call us on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5221193720."
