CCTV image of man police want to speak with after robber armed with handgun threatened staff in Tesco Express

Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to after an armed robbery at a Tesco Express.

A robber with a handgun walked into the store on Green Lane in Ashton-upon-Mersey, Sale, and threatened staff after putting on a balaclava

He fled with a quantity of cash.

Detectives described the robbery as a 'shocking attack on people who were just doing their jobs'.

They also revealed the gunman ran down Green Lane past the Old Plough pub before turning left onto Buck Lane.

Police have now released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to.

No one was injured, but police said the employees were left 'understandably shaken'.

No arrests have been made.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone who recognises the man in the image is being asked to come forward and contact police.

Detective Sergeant John Seaton said: "This was a shocking attack on people who were just doing their jobs.

"Thankfully no one was injured however that doesn’t mean to say that we are not treating it extremely seriously.

"We are appealing to members of the public to assist us in identifying the man in the image we have released as we want to speak to him in connection with the incident."

Greater Manchester Police were alerted to the armed robbery shortly before 11pm on Thursday, October 24.

A force spokesman said: "A man entered the store armed with a handgun and threatened staff after putting a balaclava over his face.

"The man then fled the store with a quantity of cash and passed the Old Plough pub before making a left at the bottom of Green Lane.

No one was injured but the employees were left understandably shaken.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
