CCTV footage shows truck bash through Dublin level crossing barriers

CCTV footage shows the moment a truck crashes through a barrier at a level crossing in Dublin.

The video shows a white truck stopped in a yellow box at the crossing as the barrier comes down.

The barrier then hits the roof of the cab before the truck drives forward causing serious damage to the gate.

The incident at the barriers at Serpentine Avenue, Dublin, left commuters scratching their heads as the busy rail service was suspended.

Irish Rail released the footage of the crash and added that Dublin Bus are accepting rail tickets for the affected commuters.

Services between Sandymount and Lansdowne have been suspended after the incident.

A spokeswoman  for Irish Rail told Irishmirror.ie: "Serpentine level crossing barriers were struck and damaged by a vehicle at 09:45 this morning.

"As a result of this services were suspended for 15 minutes until personnel arrived on site to put manual signalling arrangements in place.

"These were put in place and services resumed, subject to delays.

"The barrier was replaced at 11:30.

"We would appeal to all road users to obey warning signals at level crossings and not take chances.

"It is extremely dangerous to enter onto the live railway when the barriers are lowering and it also causes considerable disruption to services, there is also a cost to replacing the barriers."
