CCTV clue into theft from pregnant NHS worker's car in Nottingham car park

Officers investigating the theft from a pregnant NHS worker’s car have released a new CCTV clue in an attempt to catch the culprit.

Becky Jones, 30, shared a tearful video on social media last week highlighting the break-in at a city centre car park.

Ms Jones, who lives near Newark, has been on the frontline throughout the pandemic, working as a clinical biochemist at City Hospital.

She looks for any 'abnormalities' in patients' blood and urine tests, including those who have been diagnosed with coronavirus.

But when she decided to go shopping and for a nice meal with her boyfriend in Nottingham city centre on Saturday, July 12, her day was ruined when thieves smashed into her black Audi A1.

They hammered through the passenger window, rummaged through the boot, and stole three maternity dresses she had bought for work, gym clothes and headphones.

In total, more than £300 of items were taken.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police have released the CCTV footage in a bid to get more information from the public.

Sergeant Richard Tiernan said: “We were all disgusted to hear that an NHS worker had been targeted in this way, especially given everything those in the NHS have done in a time of national crisis.

“We’re carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident and as part of that I would like to encourage the public to come forward if they saw anything which could help us.

“In particular I would like to speak to anyone who recognises the man pictured in this CCTV footage. Anything you can tell us could be vital to this case.”

A 22-year-old man was previously arrested on suspicion of theft from motor vehicle following the incident and has since been ruled out of the investigation.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live following the incident, Ms Jones said her NHS badge was on display in the car when the crime occurred.

"I was absolutely gutted. I can't even put it into words. I felt violated. I have been going into work every day and I am pregnant", she said.

"It is not just me that is at risk, it is the baby as well.

"I bought these clothes so I could go to work and I have been trying to keep fit and then for someone to take advantage like that.

"My NHS badge was left on the seat and they would have known that."

The incident happened at the Nottingham Arena (Brook Street) Car Park between 7.30pm and 8.30pm while the couple were enjoying a meal at Sexy Mamma Love Spaghetti in Hockley.

She returned to her vehicle to find her gym leggings and the rest of her gym bag sprawled across the car park floor.

She said: "It’s caused a lot of distress and I’m 23 weeks pregnant.

"I’m sickened and saddened by what has happened.

"I can't go into work because I need to contact the garage and insurance about the damage to my car.

"I have to think it is just possessions and I have got my health.

"But I would like to see someone put to account for it."

Anyone with information that could help Nottinghamshire Police with their investigation should call 101, quoting incident 739.
