CCTV captured the moment a quick-thinking police officer saved a choking baby, just moments before Christmas.
When a distraught couple ran into a police station in Perth, Australia, clutching their son and pleading for help late on Christmas Eve, one police officer immediately sprang into action.
Acting Sergeant Jason Lee raced around the front desk and into the foyer, where he grabbed the eight-month-old boy from his father and began patting him on the back.
The baby had been choking on a piece of food and was struggling to breathe but thanks to Mr Lee the food was dislodged and disaster narrowly avoided.
Posting a video of the incident on Facebook, Western Australia Police said: “First Aid is very important to know and you never know when you may need to use it. Merry Christmas!”
Fellow officer Acting Inspector Shane Crook told 9News: “Our officers receive first aid training and with several years of experience, it looks like that training experience just kicked in and he’s gone straight into action.
“He just ran in, assessed it, it was what it was, the baby straight under his arm a pat on the back and the food stuff came out.
“It just sort of lifts the place, a situation like that. It is positive, it’s a good result, I think everyone would have been all smiles...police officers like good stories.”
This family was lucky a police station was close by and still open, however the force urged people to call emergency services if they find themselves in a similar situation.
