CCTV captures moment car torched in 'targeted attack' outside family home

A family were shocked to discover one of their cars had been torched in an early morning attack.

Liam Szafranek, of Blantyre , Lanarkshire, said his dad awoke at around 1.55am on Monday morning to a loud bang coming from outside.

Liam, 19, said he was horrified to discover his son's 2015 Ford Fiesta up in smoke outside the family home on Hunthill Road .

He added: "It was my dad who noticed it. He heard a loud bang minutes after it was set alight."

CCTV of the attack show two suspects approaching the red car before it is seen going up in flames.

One of the suspects is then seen running off.

Liam said he has no idea why his car was targetted.

He added: "I'm gutted. I've definitely been targeted and I don't know why.

"It's completely random.

"I work hard and keep myself to myself."

Emergency services raced to the scene and the fire was extinguished.

Liam said his car is destroyed and it will cost thousands of pounds to repair.

He took to Facebook to appeal for witnesses and to offer a cash reward for information.

He wrote: "Last night my car was set on fire at 01:54 on Hunthill Road - Blantyre .

"Luckily we have the men on our CCTV and also have the police investigating the incident.

"We have also managed to acquire further CCTV footage from surrounding buildings, pubs and the care-home.

"The video evidence is being sent off to specialists for enhancements, then we will be able to identify the men who were involved.

"If anyone has any information or has seen these men in the Blantyre area in the early hours of this morning (2am) then please contact myself or the police.

"Large cash reward will be given to the person that leads us to the men that done this to my car!"

A Police Scotland Spokesperson confirmed they were investigating the incident, saying: "We received a report that a car had been set on fire at 2.30am on Monday, October 21.

"No arrests have been made.

"Inquiries are ongoing."
